Opening pop-up exhibition and holiday party for Bryn Namavari’s collection of work ‘Locus Amoenus’
Friday, December 17, 6:00-9:00 pm
Paintings, textiles, and collage pieces explore the search for balance and the 'Ideal'.
Locus Amoenus (Latin for "pleasant place") is a literary topos involving an idealized place of safety or comfort. An architect and artist, Bryn Namavari also draws on her background in history and philosophy. Her works frequently explore the concepts of the Ideal or Utopia through abstract 'essential geometries'.
While the classical trope of the locus amoenus consists of images of trees, grass, and water, the more architectonic nature of Namavari's work focuses on creating minimalistic compositions of geometric elements that conceptually explore the same philosophical concepts.
Abstraction frees the artwork from time and morality, the use of primary colors further removes the compositions from the chaos of reality. Rather than literal landscapes, her works focus on the concept of the locus amoenus as a 'landscape of the mind'.
