Marie Krajan artist statement:
I moved to California where I’m endlessly inspired by the sun, landscape and lively art scene. Recently, I’ve embarked on a new path of greater creative freedom through abstract expression. I’ve participated in numerous exhibitions in New York and now in California, centered in Marin County.
In 2019, I created the Deep Secrets Series, celebrating coral reef habitats. With their seemingly infinite array of shapes and colors, teeming with life, the beauty and diversity of the coral reefs provided me with the freedom to experiment with abstract graphic elements and a strong color palette.
In 2020, I was working on a series of paintings originally inspired by the Northern Lights, nature’s light show, and a beautiful display of colors and shapes. These paintings represent an important step towards abstract expressionism. I hope the viewers are excited by the selection of colors and drawn in by the free-flowing shapes and overall harmony.
In 2021, I began work on a series using geometric shapes and water-based acrylic sprays, with various shapes cut out of paper. Going back to basics! As a designer, I enjoy composing the image shape by shape, adding one color at a time without feeling the need for a clear vision of the final result. It’s great fun!
