One of our longest established artists to exhibit at the Kim Eagles-Smith Gallery, San Francisco painter John Goodman, will show a curated selection of his work created over the last twenty years.
Goodman was a celebrated playwright, producer, director and actor in the SF Bay Area before turning to the visual arts full time thirty years ago.
As self-taught painter he was influenced by the San Francisco Bay Area Figurative movement of the 1950s and sixties, especially the work of Elmer Bischoff, and Nathan Oliveira who became his friend and mentor, as well as the so-called London School of figurative painters including, Francis Bacon, Frank Auerbach, and Lucian Freud.
John Goodman’s primary curiosity in depicting the human form is exploring the psychology or inner life of his subjects along with taking pleasure from the physical properties of manipulating oil paint on a two-dimensional surface. Mr. Goodman has exhibited extensively in New York, Chicago, and the West Coast.
This exhibition will be accompanied by a forty-page color catalogue.
High resolution images suitable for printing are available by request.
