The San Geronimo Valley Community Center is proud to present Corn Husk Dolls: Friendship, Feathers & Fans works by Alicia M. Retes in the West Room of the Maurice Del Mue Galleries.

Alicia M. Retes, a storytelling artisan, creates visual imagery paired to stories about her five foot tall corn husk sculptures for the tale of “Three Sisters - Corn, Bean and Squash.”

Aside from exhibiting her corn husk sculptural pieces she will conduct workshops in conjunction with the Center’s International Day of Peace Festival during the month of September and give a special performance on September 24th at 5 PM.

There will be a reception for the artist on Sunday, September 11 from 4 -7 PM. 

Retes is a member of the Miwok of Marin Archeological Preserve; Marin American Indian Alliance and is the former education director for the Museum of the American Indian of Novato, California. She has provided Indigenous cultural education and natural history tours on land and sea along the Southern and Central California Coast since 2005.

Retes is also an active member of the National Storytelling Network, Storytellers Association of California and the Sierra Foothill Storytelling Guild.
