Dia de los Muertos San Rafael

Dia de los Muertos San Rafael

Presented by Multicultural Center of Marin at Albert J. Boro Community Center

Remarkably, Day of the Dead - Dia de los Muertos San Rafael will celebrate its 29th anniversary on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Albert J. Boro Community Center from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

That’s right. For 29 years the traditions of the Day of the Dead have been honored and celebrated by community members of San Rafael, Marin County and beyond.

The Mission of the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) celebration is to reunite the diverse communities of San Rafael with the purpose of sharing a grateful acknowledgment of the continuing ebb and flow of existence. And at the same time, to offer the opportunity to exalt the cultural legacy of Latin American cultures by providing a space for cultural performances and family art activities that deepen the values of the spirituality of death.

There will be live music, art workshops, face painting, traditional food, a procession, and cultural performances (Mixcoalt Aztec Dancers, Ballet Folklorico Netzahualcoyotl, Pan Rafael Steel Drum Band, Ritmo 6).

The Day of the Dead Organizing Committee is under the leadership of the CANAL WELCOME CENTER and it is persistently working in the planning, programming and sustainability of this traditional celebration: City of San Rafael, Canal Welcome Center, Pickleweed Community Center and Library, Catholic Charities CYO Kids’ Club, The Canal Youth and Family Council, Local artists, performers, Canal residents and youth members.

All our efforts are meant to ensure that the multicultural Canal neighborhood and the broader San Rafael and Marin community can gather the first week of November to celebrate life and honor our diversity.
