ÆRENA Galleries and Gardens invites you to celebrate Terra Firma, an exhibition featuring the painted works of John Karl Claes, Micah Crandall-Bear, and Ryan Snow.

This collection of California artists brings a modern look at our relationship to our environment. Whether a new view of pastoral landscapes, refined atmospheric layers, or pigments taken from natural sources, each artist brings an enlightening commentary on how we interact within our world.

John Karl Claes offers a unique viewpoint to landscape painting by taking to the skies. Starting with an aerial view of Californian agrarian landscape, Claes expertly paints his world in imaginative and striking colors, creating a dream-like world that invites us to rediscover familiar places.

Micah Crandall-Bear examines Earth’s intrinsic resources through linear layers that shift between horizon lines and subterranean geography. Exploring a wet-on-wet painting technique, Crandall-Bear is able to investigate these ideas through smooth blended lines and colors that seamlessly coexist.

Ryan Snow creates visual meditations by experimenting with natural Earth pigments of indigo and ochre on natural linen fabrics. By embracing these organic methods, he brings us closer to our relationship with our planet by emphasizing natural methods of creating art.
