Echo Chamber Orchestra's popular Promenade concert returns to San Anselmo's First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 17, at 6:30 pm. This year's program will feature Tumbao, an electrifying Latin-themed suite for orchestra by the young Mexican composer Horacio Fernández Vázquez with guest trumpeter Doug Morton.

Tumbao won the 2019 Juilliard Composition Competition and received its premiere in 2020 by The Juilliard Orchestra at New York City's Alice Tully Hall. Vázquez, who goes by the stage name Horatio on the Beat, is a classical composer by day and an urban music producer by night. He is also a passionate filmmaker, songwriter, musical theater composer, lyricist and writer. Morton, a multi-instrumentalist and composer, has performed as trumpet soloist and in concert with many Bay Area symphony orchestras. For 30 years he played principal trumpet with the Santa Rosa Symphony.

The program also includes Joseph Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante in B-flat, or simply, Concertante, kind of a hybrid concerto-symphony that employs four soloists: violin, oboe, bassoon and cello, accompanied by a small orchestra of strings and winds. Soloists will include Brooke Aird, violin; Margot Golding, oboe; Steve Braunstein, bassoon; and Joel Cohen, cello. ECHO founder and music director Daniel Canosa will conduct.

The late-afternoon concert will start in the church courtyard, where small ensembles will play chamber music. Among the featured pieces will be the French Horn Quartet by Friedrich Homilius. The Concertante and Tumbao will take place inside the church sanctuary.
