* Saturday, October 28, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Marin Baroque has raised the bar for Baroque-era concerts and staged operas, featuring leading vocalists and period instrumentalists.
Join Marin Baroque's celebration of the 300th anniversary of JS Bach's Magnificat at San Anselmo’s First Presbyterian Church.
Daniel Canosa will conduct the early instrument ensemble with vocal soloists Rosemary Beecher Bryant and Helene Zindarsian (soprano); Sara Couden (contralto); Samuel Faustine (tenor); and John Kendall Bailey (bass).
One of the most beloved works in the choral realm, the text of Magnificat is taken from the Gospel of Luke and sung in Latin. Bach composed it for Christmas Day in 1723, during the first year of his post as music director of St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, Germany. The festive orchestra includes trumpets, flutes, oboes, strings, timpani and continuo (early keyboard).
