More than 130 young artists submitted their artwork for Youth in Arts’ annual Rising Stars exhibit. The show, in its 33rd year, features the best high school artists from public, private and alternative schools across Marin County. The showcase runs February 10 through April 12.
It features drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures, mixed media, and digital artwork from emerging youth artists. The art is on display at the YIA Gallery at 917 C St. in the Downtown San Rafael Arts District, weekdays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Visual art teachers from 14 Marin County high schools nominated their top students for the juried show. Winners will be announced on Saturday, February 10, at an artists’ award reception from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the YIA Gallery.
The exhibition will be blindly adjudicated. This year’s judges include renowned gallery owner, Sarah Shepard, interdisciplinary artist Naomi Tamura, and Marin Open Studios founder, Kay Carlson.
Sponsors include College of Marin, RileyStreet Art Supply, Marin Open Studios, and Laurel Graver & Scott Kaplan Family Trust, and Naomi Tamura & Ali Rezaian Family.
Participants include Archie Williams High School, Marin Academy, Marin Catholic High School, Marin School of the Arts, Novato High School, Redwood High School, San Domenico School, San Marin High School, San Rafael High School, Tamalpais High School, TeamWorks, Terra Linda High School, The Branson School, and Tomales High School.
