Book signing – Broad Strokes: 15 Women Who Made Art And Made History (In That Order), with author Bridget Quinn
“Broad Strokes: 15 Women Who Made Art And Made History (In That Order)”
Bridget Quinn will discuss some important underknown women in the history of art and drill down on one story in particular that gives a sense of how it is women artists have been lost to history.
About the book: Historically, major women artists have been excluded from the mainstream art canon. Aligned with the resurgence of feminism in pop culture, Broad Strokes offers an entertaining corrective to that omission.
Art historian Bridget Quinn delves into the lives and careers of 15 female artists from around the globe in text that’s smart, feisty, educational, and an enjoyable read.
Replete with beautiful reproductions of the artists’ works and contemporary portraits of each artist by renowned illustrator Lisa Congdon, this is art history from the Renaissance to Abstract Expressionism for the modern art lover, reader, and feminist.
Bridget Quinn is a writer, art history scholar, and educator. She’s worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and taught art history and architecture at Portland State University, the Chautauqua Institution and elsewhere. She’s a grateful denizen of that lively creative community, the San Francisco Writers’ Grotto, where she is co-host of The GrottoPod: Writers On Writing.
Her work has been a finalist for the Annie Dillard Award for Creative Nonfiction and has been twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Her essay “At Swim, Two Girls,” first published in Narrative Magazine, was included in The Best American Sports Writing 2013.
