In-person workshop: introduction to various processes of bookbinding
This workshop shows you many ways to make these simple books a personal expression of your artistic or literary desires.
The single-section book is the most fundamental of book structures, and an introduction to many of the processes of bookbinding: folding, scoring, cutting, deckling, sewing.
We will make ten(!) books beginning with 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-hole variations, followed by the multi-hole teardrop stitch, the string-of-pearls stitch, the bow-tie stitch, and two triple-twist variations…one looped, and the other a running stitch.
Afterward, at home, you will be able to custom-create in different ways for yourself or for your loved ones with your inventiveness of materials and finishing techniques. Sample variations will be shared, including the use of end-sheets, accordion-folds, cover pockets, and the making of the dos-a-dos structure.
