All About Texture featuring acrylics by Barbie Rose

At a very young age, if a person pays attention to what one gravitates towards, those are clues to a person’s passion.  This is what Barbie discovered when she spent her very first paycheck to purchase a camera and thus the pursuit of creativity began.

While living in So. California, Barbie was fortunate to study under John Upton at the School of Photography at Orange Coast College.  John was mentored by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Imogene Cunningham and Minor White.  With John’s expertise, Barbie learned the value of lighting, shadow and composition qualities, which aided her immensely as she pursued painting in the years to come.

While pursuing a photography career, Barbie became an award winning photographer and juror in both Southern and Northern California Professional Photographer’s organizations. Later, Barbie was able to incorporate painting with photography in the forms of photo oils (Pre-Raphaelite-esq) and hand-colored black & white photos (from film) and SX-70 photo manipulations.

Paying attention to passion clues, Barbie became curious with how to paint, in her late 20’s.  Watercolor quickly grabbed her attention, then oil, acrylic and encaustic.

The intrigue of each medium drew her to explore and experiment, pushing the elements and implementing enticing textures.  Sometimes bold, rich color prevails as she works while at other times, moody/ethereal/atmospheric themes takes precedence.

Something Barbie is thankful for is that the creative mind is limitless with ideas which keeps it fascinating.  Barbie enjoys sharing with others, what she has learned from her award winning mentors; John Upton, David Peters, Chester Arnold, Monica Steiner, Scott Gellatly, Christin Coy, Sandi Miot, Robert Burridge, Susan Rios, Di Robb, Larry Moore, Jeff and Elaine Leedy.

Barbie is an award winning artist who has clients internationally.  Currently she is a member of the Marin Society of Artists in San Rafael, California where her studio is located.

Barbie is also a member of the California Art Club, a Plein Air art community who appreciates the immense beauty throughout California while painting outdoors.  Barbie draws on The Creator for inspiration and experiences joy as she creates.

Her intention is to bring joy and peace to those viewing her artwork, in homes and offices where it will bless all who enter.
