My mother died one year ago. In her final year, she allowed me to photograph her as she moved through her daily activities, documenting her increasing need for care, capturing both the arduousness and tenderness of her journey.

She welcomed me into her most intimate and vulnerable moments, such as being showered by her caregiver.  But she also showed me that even within this narrowing time, we can still be bold, fierce and playful.  That who we are, what we feel inside at 25, 50 or 92 is up for grabs.

When I had my camera with me, I experienced an intimacy with her that I struggled to find without it.  During our photographic sessions, we gave to each other something we both needed. I made her feel interesting and relevant and she inspired me to create. This is our story.
