Hamilton’s Hidden Narrative: 180,000 Southeast Asian refugees and survival in the South China Sea

Laurie Reemsnyder will speak about the refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia, and other Southeast Asia countries who came through Hamilton Air Force Base in the 1980’s.

Laurie is a teacher in the county and she has had extensive experience In support of refugees and she played an instrumental role in the refugee project at Hamilton.

Lauren Vuong was seven years old when she and her family crowded in a small boat with fifty-seven other and left Vietnam in 1980.

After ten days, lost and depleted of food, water and fuel, death was an imminent certainly.

A miracle appeared in the form of the carrier LNG Virgo. She will share her story of the search for the captain of the Virgo.
