Obsidian: New Artworks – Dr. Orin Carpenter
Obsidian is a protective stone, known for its ability to block, absorb, and transform negative energy. Like obsidian, African Americans have found ways to withstand countless brutal attacks on our spirit, mind, body, and soul, while transforming the negative energy created by these traumas, in a continual fight for equality and equity.
Through these images, I hope you can see in my depiction as an artivist, the ability of a people to endure, elevate, educate, and evolve regardless of the battles endured.
Orin Carpenter is a Marin based mixed media artist. His powerful work has been exhibited in various galleries and most recently at the de Young Museum in San Francisco.
