Paintings by Stacey Smigrod at Moonstruck Fine Jewelry

The Moonstruck studio and showroom features jewelry created by Johanna Hollinga and Bouke Hollinga.

Stacey Smigrod is an impressionist artist and portrait painter based in Northern California.

Stacey’s depiction of light and shadow is a consistent theme across her portraits, still lifes, landscapes and drawings. Her primary mediums include oil painting and charcoal. Across both mediums, her artworks express how conditions of light form warm and cool values.

Each piece depicts the subject matter with just enough detail to draw the viewer into the image, without including every detail, thus allowing the viewer’s eye to finish the artwork.

Born and raised in Great Neck, New York and daughter of an antique jeweler, Stacey spent  her childhood admiring the beautiful jewelry her father sold on 47th Street in Manhattan. Her artistic eye and appreciation for good design began to develop at a young age while studying every detail of these small works of art.

As a Landscape Designer for many years, creating large scale gardens in Sonoma County, California, Stacey has built a career bringing her designs to fruition. However, when your materials are from the natural world, sometimes the color palette is limiting. Learning to paint was Stacey’s opportunity to finally create her own universe through the use of color.

Her greatest enjoyment and also largest challenge continues to be portraying the world through direct observation. However, the intrinsic joy in capturing a landscape, model or still life in plein air using the colorist and impressionist techniques is the magic that inspires her to continue creating.
