The Mesostic: A Poetic Form of Attention

Form is a powerful tool for summoning and directing creative flow whether through homage, dialogue, or direct address. In this way, we will engage composer John Cage’s mesostic as a gateway to an expanded poetic practice.

giovanni singleton is a California-based professor, editor, and creative working at the intersections of language, sound, and visual art. Published works include Ascension, winner of the California Book Award Gold Medal, and American Letters: works on paper. The often spare quality of her work is concerned with what Lu Chi describes as “tracing echoes to their sources.”
