The Story of a Shawl: Celebrating a Marin Family with Chilean Roots Local History Exhibit

Visit the Anne T. Kent California Room to learn the story of a Marin family with Chilean roots.

Exhibition Dates:
* October 13, 2023 -January 31, 2024

A shawl belonging to Juana Mary Bosa Tilheras (1834-1910) was donated to the Anne T. Kent California Room by Bob Davidson in 2016. The deed of gift read “family tells that Juana brought the shawl from Chile to California and that it was passed down through several generations of daughters.”

Intrigued by the story of a shawl that made the journey all the way from Chile to California so long ago – and is still intact – Supervising Archivist Charmaine Bonner used historical documents and local newspapers to discover Juana’s history, passed down through the generations in Marin County.

This exhibit will be on view through January 31, 2024.
