Gary Snyder winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Bollingen Prize, and innumerable other honors, has been called the “Poet Laureate of Deep Ecology.” From Riprap & Cold Mountain Poems, first published in 1959, to the essays in Tawny Grammar, published in 2019, his books of poetry, essays, letters, and translations have shaped not only the world’s poetic landscape but the terrain of culture itself.
Jane Hirshfield’s fifteen much-honored books include poetry, essays, and translations presenting world poets from the deep past. Her honors include the Poetry Center Book Award, the California Book Award, and fellowships from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller foundations. A former chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, she was elected in 2019 into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
